World Water Day grew out of the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environmental and Development in Rio de Janeiro. World Water Day in 2005 marked the beginning of the UN International Decade for Action on Water. This decade puts the spotlight on water-related programs, with hopes to increase the efforts for achieving international water-related goals and the United Nations Millennium Declaration. World Water Day is celebrated on March 22 each year and inspires events across the world which draw attention to the need for clean water for a healthy world.
Portland Global Initiatives will be holding a Pub Crawl event for World Water Day on March 24th, 2017 to help raise funds for water projects around the world. Past Projects have included partnering with Global Brigades to bring water to homes in Honduras.
